How credits work
1 credit ≈ 1,200 tokens of ChatGPT Image 2.6 generation. The cost of a GIF depends on how much you send in:
- Text only: ≈ 1 credit (Standard)
- 1 reference image: ≈ 2 credits (Standard)
- 2 reference images: ≈ 3 credits (Standard)
- 4 reference images: ≈ 5 credits (Standard)
High quality costs more than Standard. Your exact credit use is shown after every generation.
Frequently asked questions about the AI GIF Generator
What is a free AI GIF generator?
A free AI GIF generator turns a text prompt — or your own images — into an animated GIF using an AI model. With GIF Forge, you describe the motion you want and ChatGPT Image 2.6 renders a looping GIF for you. Your first Standard GIF is free, with a watermark and no login required.
Do I need to log in to generate a GIF?
No. Your first Standard GIF is free with no login at all. Logging in gives you one more free GIF — a High-quality one — and lets you buy credits for clean, watermark-free GIFs.
Can I use the GIFs commercially?
GIFs made with paid credits can be used commercially — in ads, products, social content, and client work. Free GIFs are watermarked and for personal, non-commercial use.
How many reference images can I upload?
Up to 4 reference images per GIF. Use 1 image to animate a photo, 2 to blend two images, or 4 as keyframes for the animation. Each extra image adds to the credit cost, since the model reads every image you send.
What model generates the GIF?
Every GIF on GIF Forge is generated natively by ChatGPT Image 2.6 (the Flare model). The model outputs a real animated GIF directly — no frame-by-frame stitching after the fact.
What quality and size are the GIFs?
Every GIF is 512×512 pixels, 9 frames, with each frame shown for 200ms, looping forever. Standard quality is the faster, cheaper draft; High quality uses more of the model for a more detailed result at the same 512×512 size.
How do credits work?
1 credit ≈ 1,200 tokens of generation. A text-only Standard GIF costs about 1 credit; 1 reference image is about 2 credits, 2 images about 3, and 4 images about 5. High quality costs more. Credits never expire, and your remaining balance is shown in the generator after every generation.
